LITTLE LEAGUE TURNS DOWN A $1,200 DONATION FROM A STRIP CLUB

School budgets are tight, so the Lennox County School District in Los Angeles decided to raise revenue by doubling the fee for using their playing fields.

That was bad news for the 300 kids who play baseball in the Lennox Little League. The league had no way to pay the higher fees, and was in danger of folding . . . until a local business donated $1,200.

Unfortunately, the local business was The Jet Strip, which is known as “L.A.’s Friendliest Gentlemen’s Club.”

The board approved the donation two weeks ago . . . then people found out where the money came from. Monday, the league declined the offer. and said they’d try to raise the money some other way.

DAILY DUMBASS

On Friday, 26-year-old Jeremy Blair of Kaysville, Utah was watching the local news with his father (–Whose name wasn’t released.) And the news covered a story on a computer store burglary from last week.

When they showed surveillance tapes of the robbery, Jeremy’s dad recognized that his son . . . who was sitting next to him . . . was one of the robbers.

It’s a little hard to imagine JUST how awkward that was . . . but after a serious conversation, Jeremy agreed to turn himself in. So his dad drove him to the local jail, and he confessed.

Jeremy is facing charges of burglary and criminal mischief for stealing about $6,500 worth of merchandise, and doing $2,500 worth of damage. The other robber is still unknown . . . apparently he WASN’T watching TV with his dad on Friday.

OCHOCINCO TREATS 200 PEOPLE TO DINNER

I post enough stuff about athletes being A-Holes, so here’s a story about a player in the NFL doing something really nice.

Patriots receiver CHAD OCHOCINCO treated 200 people to dinner in New York City on Monday night.

Earlier in the day he Tweeted, quote, “1st 200 people at Sylvia’s Restaurant by 7 pm in Harlem. Leave ya money/credit cards at home. I got you this time.” By 7, the line was around the block.

Ocho’s new friends dined on barbecue ribs, fried chicken, mac and cheese, corn bread, iced tea and cocktails. The bill came to over $7,900. There’s no word how much he tipped. Here’s a video of him mingling after dinner.

I explain my Husky/Cal/Tourney comments/thoughts, and also give you my thoughts on Wroten’s last perfomance.  I also caught up with an old friend who is called The Dumptruck Guy.  We met at a McDonalds, and he was…..uh…..enjoying the weekend?  I wasn’t sure if I should post it, but he’s cool with it, so I am too.  Enjoy!  Facebook.com/Dumptruckguy

DAILY DUMBASS(ES)

A lot of cities don’t have the right resources in the right places to help their homeless population. And a lot of cities have spotty wireless coverage. Both are problems, but on a much different scale. And tackling both at the same time . . . just feels wrong.

A marketing company called BBH wants to kill two birds with one stone . . . by TURNING homeless people INTO wireless hotspots. They give them the equipment, and a t-shirt identifying themselves.

Then, when you see a person in an “I’m a 4G Hot Spot” shirt, you can donate money by PayPal to connect to their network. And all the money goes to the homeless person.

They’re testing the program with 12 homeless people this week at the South by Southwest arts and technology festival in Austin, Texas.

Obviously the idea has stirred up criticism about the treatment of homeless people, and how to tackle the problem of homelessness in general. Some people think it’s an ‘innovative’ idea . . . and that’s what the festival is about. But is it exploitation?

The 12 test subjects include someone displaced by Hurricane Katrina, a woman who escaped an abusive marriage, a parolee, and a man celebrating 18 months of sobriety.

TOURNEY BRACKET HELP

So you’ve got to fill out a bracket for your office’s March Madness pool, but you didn’t get a chance to watch teams like Murray State, Iona, or Southern Miss this year so you have no idea if they’re any good. Here’s a shortcut.

There’s a website that’s monitoring, in real time, how many bets are being placed on different teams at seven online sportsbooks. So you can make your picks on the teams that people are actually willing to bet their money on.
